Lexington and Northwest Commonwealth

This section of the Commonwealth has its borders roughly from Sanctuary Hills in the north, to the west foothills. To the east and south, this region ends at the elevated freeways - or at least, what's left of them. In the southeast corner, at the congruity of the two freeways, is Lexington, a gateway to the greater Boston area.

Once a burgeoning landscape, this region still has the remains of suburbs and cities alike. Among the ruins are several settlements. Among them are Abernathy Farm, Drumlin Diner and Tenpines Bluff. Due to the high traffic and relative safety, thanks to relatively low background radiation compared to the rest of the Commonwealth, this region is home to several raider gangs who prey on the caravan traffic.

SANCTUARY HILLS

Sanctuary Hills was a friendly suburb of Concord, located on a small island about a mile north of the town and accessible only by a wooden bridge, consisting of 14 prefabricated houses. When Boston was hit by an atomic warhead, the select citizens that had spaces reserved fled to Vault 111, while others hid in their homemade bunkers or wherever they could escape the atomic fire.

After the war, Sanctuary Hills was left to decay, with several of the original homes collapsing and falling into various states of disrepair. It was only in the last hundred years that a bustling, well-defended settlement began to spring up from the ruins, repairing the homes as best they could and building around where they could not. Thanks to the forests and bridge that separate it from the rest of the Commonwealth, it quickly became one of the best-fortified settlements, and attracted settlers from across the wasteland.

LEXINGTON

Lexington was once a historic town northwest of Boston, remembered for its role in the American Revolutionary War. By 2077, Lexington was an industrial hub known by its nickname of "Corvega Town" thanks to the presence of the large Corvega assembly plant. An overpass for the elevated highway was built through Lexington, dividing the town, and many buildings were retrofitted to act as structural support.

After the Great War, Lexington's ruins became a raider stronghold until the abundance of feral ghouls forced most of the raiders to abandon it, leaving only smaller, roaming groups that often made their base in the Corvega assembly plant.

ABERNATHY FARM

Abernathy Farm is a homestead constructed around a large pre-War high voltage pylon, founded by the Abernathy family a little over a hundred years ago, and still maintained by their descendants - though the settlement has since opened up to allow other folks to settle among them, provided they're willing to do their fair share of farm work!

TENPINES BLUFF

Tenpines Bluff is a small settlement made up of cobbled-together shacks and a reasonably sized tato plant farm. Based in one of the safer areas of the Commonwealth, raids are infrequent, and the settlers there hence enjoy relative peace.

Close to both the robotics disposal ground and the USAF satellite station, many of the wanderers who enjoy scavenging parts from such locations find themselves settling either temporarily or permanently here.
